Dr. Afaq Ahmad is a distinguished academic and researcher specializing in Structural Engineering. He focuses on the reliability analysis of structures using Artificial intelligence and image processing. He currently holds the position of Marie Curie Fellow at the Faculty of Technology, Art, and Design (TKD) at Oslomet University in Norway. His current research project, funded by the EU, explores the FORENSIC ANALYSIS OF CONCRETE STRUCTURES THROUGH ADVANCED IMAGE PROCESSING TECHNIQUES.
In addition to being a prestigious Marie Curie fellow, he was also a Fulbright Scholar at the University of Memphis, where he contributed to research on STRUCTURAL HEALTH MONITORING OF THE I-40 BRIDGE SPANNING THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER, and James Watt Scholar for his Ph.D. studies at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, UK, to research on ASSESSMENT OF REINFORCED CONCRETE STRUCTURES THROUGH ARTIFICIAL NEURAL NETWORKS.

His contributions to the field have been recognized through various awards, including the Punjab Innovation & Research Challenge Award (PIRCA) for his project on STRUCTURAL HEALTH MONITORING WITH IMAGE PROCESSING AND CONVOLUTIONAL NEURAL NETWORKS (CNN).
Dr. Ahmad's career spans various academic and engineering roles. He has served as an Associate Professor at the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Taxila, Pakistan, where he has been involved in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching. His academic roles have also included Adjunct Professor at the University of Memphis and Associate Fellow at Heriot-Watt University, where he contributed to education and research. He supervised 53 undergraduate students and 15 postgraduate students.
