About

Since joining academia in 1992, Dr. Frikkie Herbst held various leadership positions at higher education institutions in South Africa and abroad. During these years, he gained valuable experience in senior management, strategic planning, research development, curriculum design and programme reviews and my participation had a definite impact. Dr. Herbst is driven by a quest for excellence in teaching and research. Previously, he was a Full Professor at the University of the Western Cape (UWC), Head of the PhD and MBA Programmes at the University of Stellenbosch Business School (USB) and Head of Research at Milpark Business School, HoD and Dean at FLAME University in Pune, India.

Dr. Herbst’s passion for people makes him a servant to higher education and throughout his academic career. He has also contributed to the improvement of society. His engagement with industry is by means of consulting projects since 1999. After obtaining his DCom in Marketing Management at the University of Pretoria in 2002, he became an active member of the local and international teaching and research community. He was a visiting professor at REIMS School of Management, Rouen Business School and IESEG School of Management in France and Uppsala University in Sweden as part of a Linnaeus Palma lecturer exchange.

Dr. Herbst has published a number of articles in peer reviewed journals, presented papers at both local and international subject related conferences. He is the author of chapters in local small business, marketing and tourism textbooks and co-author and editor of a Business Research Methods textbook. During his years at the University of Stellenbosch (US), he received the Rector’s award for excellence in teaching, the best paper award at the Twelfth Annual International Conference of Global Business and Technology Association (GBATA) and a Golden Key International Honours Society Stellenbosch Chapter recognition certificate for excellence in teaching.

Dr. Herbst works with leaders and decision-makers in various industries, and mentors marketing decision-makers on a middle and top management level. Hereby, he is committed to build and help leaders and organisations to adapt and to learn better in a dynamic environment. On the 1st of July 2024, he joined the School of Management Sciences at the University of the North-West (NWU) in Potchefstroom, South Africa. Since then, he became an Advisory Committee Member for ICAMET 2025 and a Member of the Academic Advisory Board at NICMAR Business School in Pune, India. He was also invited to teach a basic marketing course to MBA students at Chanakya University in October 2025.
