Dr. Sumit Chakravarty is presently Professor, Department of Forestry, UBKV, Pundibari with more than 20 years of experience in forestry teaching, research and extension along with administrative experiences. He served as Deputy Registrar, Nodal Officer for Indian Agricultural University and Associate Director of Research, UBKV, Pundibari. He was also a member, Working Group for Community Agro-Biodiversity Conservation Award, Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers Rights Authority, Govt. of India, New Delhi and Peer Reviewer of Project Proposals, ICFRE- Institute of Forest Productivity, Ranchi and Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF), (erstwhile SERB), DST Government of India, New Delhi, member, Regional Research Advisory Committee, Regional Sericultural Research Station, Central Silk Board (Ministry of Textiles, GoI), Kalimpong and International Evaluator of the Projects, Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation (SRNSF) Tbilisi Georgia. He is also a member of many national and International Professional Societies. He was Conferred Honorary Fellowship by the Society of Environment Science, Dumka; Society of Sciences, Dumka and East Himalayan Society for Spermatocyte Taxonomy (Taxo Club) North Bengal University, Siliguri, India. He was also conferred Scientist of the Year 2017 Award by International Foundation for Environment and Ecology and Confederation of Indian Universities, New Delhi. He has published 17 books, 67 book chapters and 162 research papers in the national and international journal of repute. He has successfully guided 26 doctoral and 33 master’s students and presently guiding 10 doctoral and 3 masters’ students. He has successfully executed 13 external funded projects. He has participated in about 50 national and international conferences/symposia/congress/seminars and delivered many invited lectures and chaired/co-chaired technical sessions in many of them. He is also a member of the editorial board of many journals and organized five National Conferences and one international symposium. He was also the founder President and Presently Secretary of Cooch Behar Association of Cultivation of Agricultural Science, UBKV Pundibari. He is editor of many peers reviewed international journals and reviewed research papers of about 100 peer reviewed international journals.
