About

Dr. Karolina Barčauskaitė obtained her PhD in Agronomy in 2018 from the Lithuanian Research Centre for Agriculture and Forestry with a dissertation on “The Amount of Polychlorinated Biphenyls and Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons in Composts Produced in Lithuania and Their Effect on Soil and Plants.” Since 2021, she has been serving as a Senior Researcher and Head of the Agrobiology Laboratory at the Institute of Agriculture, LAMMC. She holds a BSc in Applied Chemistry and an MSc in Applied Biochemical Analysis.

Her research focuses on external soil amendments—such as composts, digestates, bioash, biochar, and wastewater—produced from various by-products. She investigates their quality and contamination with heavy metals, persistent organic pollutants, and microplastics, as well as strategies for plant nutrient recovery. Her work further explores the application of these amendments to soil and their impact on soil chemical properties, microbial activity, and plant productivity.
