Dr. Ricardo Taniwaki is an environmental scientist and Adjunct Professor at the Federal University of ABC (UFABC, Brazil), specializing in aquatic ecology, biogeochemistry, and ecosystem responses to global environmental change. He holds a PhD in Applied Ecology from the University of São Paulo (ESALQ/CENA), where his doctoral research received an Honorable Mention in the USP Outstanding Thesis Award. His academic trajectory includes postdoctoral research at UFSCar’s Center for Sustainability Sciences and Technologies (FAPESP fellowship) and a Fulbright Visiting Scholar appointment at the University of Wisconsin–Madison.
Dr. Taniwaki’s research focuses on understanding the effects of land use (agriculture and urbanization), climate extremes, and restoration strategies on freshwater ecosystems, particularly in tropical and subtropical regions of Brazil. He has coordinated multidisciplinary research and extension projects integrating ecological science, environmental management, and professional education. At Federal University of ABC (Santo André, Brazil), he also serves as Vice-Coordinator of the Graduate Program in Environmental Science and Technology.
