Dr. Uzma Hanif is an accomplished academic leader, researcher, and science communicator currently serving as the Associate Professor and Chairperson of the Department of Botany at the prestigious Government College University (GCU) Lahore, Pakistan. A Gold Medalist in her field, she has consistently demonstrated excellence in teaching, research, and academic leadership throughout her distinguished career. With a deep commitment to academic development and scientific advancement, Dr. Hanif has supervised more than 85 undergraduate and postgraduate research projects, guiding young scholars in diverse areas of plant sciences. Her mentorship has been instrumental in shaping capable researchers and educators who contribute meaningfully to both academia and the broader scientific community. Under her visionary leadership, the Department of Botany witnessed significant academic expansion. Dr. Hanif successfully initiated the BS Biology program for the first time in the 112-year history of the department—an achievement that reflects her foresight, innovation, and dedication to institutional growth. In her editorial and scholarly contributions, Dr. Hanif holds the distinction of being the founding Chief Editor of the Ravian Journal of Plant Sciences, a research publication of GCU Lahore. Her editorial leadership helped establish a credible platform for the dissemination of high-quality research in plant sciences at both national and international levels.
Beyond her academic and editorial endeavors, Dr. Hanif has been deeply engaged in community development and institutional outreach. She has signed several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with national and international institutions, strengthening collaborative networks in research, education, and capacity building. Her efforts have facilitated interdisciplinary partnerships and enhanced the research culture at GCU Lahore.
As the Co-advisor of the Dr. Sultan Ahmad Botanical Society, Dr. Hanif actively promotes environmental awareness, botanical education, and student engagement through seminars, exhibitions, and community-driven initiatives.
