About

Dr. Sajeewa Maharachchikumbura is a plant pathologist and mycologist specializing in plant–microbe interactions, fungal plant pathogens, and their implications for crop health, agricultural sustainability, and biosecurity. His research integrates field disease surveys, laboratory diagnostics, fungal taxonomy, and genomic approaches to improve pathogen identification, clarify evolutionary relationships, and support sustainable plant production and disease management strategies.
He has published extensively in plant pathology and mycology, with work widely cited internationally, and has been recognized as a Clarivate Highly Cited Researcher (2018–2024). He is also a recipient of the Young Mycologist Award (Keisuke Tubaki Medal, International Mycological Association, 2024) and the Young Asian Mycologist Award (2017). In addition to research, he actively contributes to postgraduate supervision, international collaborations, and editorial service for leading journals in plant pathology and fungal biology, supporting advances in agricultural science, plant health, and food security.
