About
Dr Gemma Charlton is a Senior Lecturer in Animal Behaviour and Welfare at Harper Adams University and leads the Animal Behaviour and Welfare Research Group. Her research focuses on improving the lives of dairy cows, heifers and calves, with particular interests in pasture access, cow–calf rearing systems, early-life experiences and environmental enrichment. She also specialises in the development, validation and application of precision livestock technologies to enhance welfare assessment, support early disease detection and inform evidence-based management. Gemma supervises PhD and MRes students and teaches across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
