Distinguished Professor Fang Chen is an international leader in artificial intelligence, data science, and human-centred AI, whose research has transformed critical infrastructure, transport, healthcare, and environmental systems. Over a career spanning more than three decades, she has published more than 400 peer-reviewed publications, filed more than 30 patents, attracted substantial research and industry funding, and translated foundational advances in machine learning, predictive analytics, and trustworthy AI into large-scale real-world impact. Her innovations have been adopted by governments, industry, and infrastructure operators globally, delivering significant economic, environmental, and societal benefits. Distinguished Professor Chen currently serves as Executive Director of the UTS Data Science Institute and holds several national leadership and advisory roles in science, innovation, and AI policy.
