Dr. Cach is a biologist from the Technological Institute of Conkal, Yucatán, holds a Master of Science in Biology from the Institute of Ecology A.C. (Xalapa, Veracruz), and a Doctorate in Biological Sciences from the Center for Scientific Research of Yucatán, Mexico. He is currently a Tenured Researcher at El Colegio de la Frontera Sur (ECOSUR), a public research center belonging to the Secretariat of Science, Humanities, Technology and Innovation (SECIHTI). He is responsible for the Transdisciplinary Research Group Mesoamerican Milpa within the Department of Agriculture, Society and Environment at ECOSUR. His area of interest is the ecophysiology and morphology of cultivated plants, as well as plants growing in extreme environments such as epiphytes. He is interested in understanding plant plasticity in the face of environmental changes, that is, how plants respond at a morpho-physiological and/or productive level to climatic variation resulting from phenomena such as climate change, land use change, or changes in productive management systems, with special emphasis on functional traits and the traditional management of the Milpa.



He has supervised undergraduate, master's, and doctoral students; he has taught more than 37 courses at the postgraduate and continuing education levels and has participated as a professor in different national and international workshops and diploma programs. He has more than 30 scientific publications, including articles, books, and book chapters; he has participated in congresses in Mexico and abroad where he has presented both results of his work and keynote lectures by invitation. He is a member of the editorial committee of Frontiers in Forests and Global Change and has been a juror in academic competitions and an evaluator of postdoctoral stays, as well as research proposals for SECIHTI.



He is the founder and also responsible for the Laboratory of Plant Ecophysiology and Agroforestry Systems (LEVSA) at ECOSUR, as well as responsible for the National Laboratory for Ecotechnological Innovation for Sustainability at its Villahermosa headquarters. He is a member of the National System of Researchers of SECIHTI, as well as the State System of Researchers of the Council of Science and Technology of the State of Tabasco, Mexico.
