About
Dr. Avijit Ghosh is a scientist at the ICAR–Indian Grassland and Fodder Research Institute (IGFRI), Jhansi, working in the areas of grassland ecology, silvopasture, fodder production, ecosystem restoration, soil carbon, and climate-smart livestock–grassland systems. His research integrates field experimentation, remote sensing, spectroscopy, and explainable machine learning for monitoring and sustainable management of grassland and pasture ecosystems.
His major research contributions include semi-arid grassland restoration, soil organic carbon dynamics, pasture productivity assessment, biomass prediction, ecosystem services, and sustainable livestock production. He has developed and evaluated hortipastoral and silvopastoral systems, supported community-based pasture restoration, and worked on technologies for improving fodder availability and resource-use efficiency.
He has received several recognitions, including the WFP Top Agri-food Pioneer Award (2025), MAFF/JIRCAS Japan Award (2023), INSA Visiting Scientist Award (2024), ISTRO–Elsevier Scholarship (2024), K.N. Synghal Gold Medal (2024), ISCA Young Scientist Award (2023), and DST Young Scientist Award (2020). His broader professional interests focus on linking grassland science, climate mitigation, digital agriculture, livestock production, and rural livelihoods for sustainable agricultural development in India.
